Redundancy versus multiple starting points in nonlinear system related inverse problems
نویسندگان
چکیده
Nonlinear inverse problems arising in dynamic system state/parameter estimation are generally nonconvex, and possess multiple local minima that may threaten the convergence of global optimization routines. This problem is generally addressed by multiple starting point based algorithms. An alternative approach is to use the recently proposed concept of safe redundancy in order to derive an algorithm that crosses singularities by exploiting the particular nature of dynamic inverse problems. These techniques might seem similar, at least at first. The present communication aims to provide insight into the difference between these two approaches. This is accomplished through a simple illustrative example. © 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

On Useful Redundancy in Dynamic Inverse Problems Related Optimization
In this paper, it is pointed-out that inverse problems arising in nonlinear control systems design such as state reconstruction and/or parameter estimation are naturally redundant. It is also shown that this redundancy can be used to enhance avoiding singularity heuristics. Some related algorithms are discussed and illustrated on a simple example of chemical reactors. These algorithms can be ad...
متن کاملReliability Optimization for Complicated Systems with a Choice of Redundancy Strategies (TECHNICAL NOTE)
Redundancy allocation is one of the common techniques to increase the reliability of the bridge systems. Many studies on the general redundancy allocation problems assume that the redundancy strategy for each subsystem is predetermined and fixed. In general, active redundancy has received more attention in the past. However, in real world, a particular system design contains both active and col...
متن کاملReliability optimization problems with multiple constraints under fuzziness
In reliability optimization problems diverse situation occurs due to which it is not always possible to get relevant precision in system reliability. The imprecision in data can often be represented by triangular fuzzy numbers. In this manuscript, we have considered different fuzzy environment for reliability optimization problem of redundancy. We formulate a redundancy allocation problem for a...
متن کاملA New Nonlinear Multi-objective Redundancy Allocation Model with the Choice of Redundancy Strategy Solved by the Compromise Programming Approach
One of the primary concerns in any system design problem is to prepare a highly reliable system with minimum cost. One way to increase the reliability of systems is to use redundancy in different forms such as active or standby. In this paper, a new nonlinear multi- objective integer programming model with the choice of redundancy strategy and component type is developed where standby strategy ...
متن کاملSolving a nonlinear inverse system of Burgers equations
By applying finite difference formula to time discretization and the cubic B-splines for spatial variable, a numerical method for solving the inverse system of Burgers equations is presented. Also, the convergence analysis and stability for this problem are investigated and the order of convergence is obtained. By using two test problems, the accuracy of presented method is verified. Additional...
